Following are some of the common questions we hear about Website Maintenance website maintenance. If your question isn't covered here, make sure to contact us and we can quickly answer any concerns.

Question:

What is the benefit of paying for a maintenance service in addition to what my hosting company provides?

Answer:

90% of hosting companies either don’t provide a Website Maintenance website maintenance solution, or the maintenance solution they provide is automated and inadequate. Hosting companies can keep maintenance plans at a low price point because the maintenance is being done via automated scans and upgrades. There is little to no human supervision, quality control or testing. Therefore several months can go by with broken functionality, bugs, and other issues that robots can’t detect. The best solution is a hybrid approach where a professional project manager works against our maintenance checklist in tandem with expert technical resources.

Question:

What kind of monthly maintenance report do you provide?

Answer:

At the end of every month, your Project Manager works with our Technical Team to complete a manual review of the website along with any required application updates. These are compiled into a monthly report document along with our recommendations and important application insights.

Question:

What are Website Maintenance plugins and extensions?

Answer:

Plugins and/or extensions are PHP scripts that extend the functionality of Website Maintenance websites. They are mini-applications that enhance the features of Website Maintenance, or add new features to your site. Many plugins are developed by volunteers, and are usually free but there are also thousands of licensed plugins that require a monthly or one-time payment to use.

Some of the more popular plugins fall into these categories:

  • Spam control
  • SEO
  • Video
  • E-commerce
  • Social Feeds

Question:

Besides a Website Maintenance maintenance package, what are other standard website costs?

Answer:

  1. Hosting: For all self-hosted websites, hosting is a basic recurring cost. Depending on the complexity of your website and how much bandwidth you are using, your website hosting costs could range from $10 a month to $100+ a month for a small to midsize business website. Hosting comes in various flavors from cheap shared hosting that can be prone to hacking, to managed dedicated servers. Our hosting service of choice is Pantheon.io.

  2. Domain Name Registration: Annual domain name registration is about $12/year. That cost can come down if you prepay for multiple years of registration.

  3. SSL: Google gives preferential ranking to businesses with SSL licenses. We now build it into all our websites for extra security. These can start at ~$50 a year, though there are creative ways of ensuring https without an SSL certificate, such as the use of Cloudflare and https settings, depending on where your site is hosted and where the DNS is managed.

  4. Backups: Website Maintenance website backups are cheap insurance, no matter the size of your website. If you get hacked or infected with malware, you could have to completely rebuild your website. Backup services start at $5 a month and go up depending on the size, frequency, and type of backup you need. Some hosting companies, such as Pantheon.io, include automated scheduled backups and easy restore solutions, as part of their hosting package.

Question:

If I want to keep my current hosting provider, can I still use your website Maintenance services?

Answer:

Unfortunately we only provide our SecurePack for websites hosted on Pantheon.io. This is because it has built-in features that add security and make it better for website enhancements. Pantheon.io has a low starting cost of $35 a month. You will own the hosting account and have full access. We can perform website maintenance on an hourly basis on any hosting account.
